A young ITC student, NY Vourchnea, has developed an instant porridge during her studies. Vourchnea won several prizes for her project and created her company at the end of 2016. This porridge will be designed and manufactured in Cambodia by NEATY, a company that she created.
The project won several prizes :
[CellcardLAB Competition] 2nd prize Business Model Validation | Impact Hub Phnom Penh (Juin 2017)
[Business Model Competition] 2nd prize | Junior Accelerator Group | Mekong Competition (Fév. 2017)
[Journées de la recherche France Cambodge] Best innovative project | French Embassy (30 mars 2018)
The NEATY porridge is obtained by adding water to the powder and cooking for 5 minutes. But to develop new markets, it must be rehydratable by adding hot water without further cooking. Therefore it is necessary to modify its properties by choosing a more appropriate drying process.
Thanks to forica.org, NY Vourchnea has been linked with a laboratory specialized in powder generation and processing, the Centre RAPSODEE of IMT Mines Albi.
Ny Vourchnea tells us about her project
What will be the work program ?
The collaborative program will last 6 months and will include:
the study and optimization of transformations of rice powder into a rehydratable porridge;
the assessment and improvement of the taste and nutritional properties
the design of a manufacturing process at the scale of a Cambodian SME
This program will be carried out partly in Albi and in Phnom Penh. It will involve groups of students from both universities and their professors.
As coordinator of the project, Ny Vourchnea will do an internship at the RAPSODEE center of IMT Mines Albi for 3 months from December 2018 to March 2019 where she will develop and optimize the drying phase in order to obtain an effective rehydration of the rice powder. This trip has been financed thanks to the French Ambassy (plane tickets), IMT Mines d'Albi (salary) and forica.org (consumables and costs in Cambodia)
The project today & it's next steps
Nowadays, the NEATY porridge project aims to finalize their product, and find a production scale that fits with their startup status, that has limited financial support.
To finalize the product, NEATY is working on packaging, design and quality control of NEATY porridge. The last steps will be to launch the final product on the Cambodian market, and to focus on marketing to raise brand awarness.
